The 2-Step Glass Skin Hack

A year after we first told you about glass skin, the quest for a poreless, glowing complexion is still going strong. And, while we’ll happily complete a five-step routine to get it most days, every so often we just don’t have that kind of time on our hands. For those occasions, we’ve perfected a simple, two-step hack. All you need to achieve it is to follow the two core tenets of glass skin: buff and hydrate.

Read on for the lazy girl way to go glassy.

Step 1) Buff

Nothing gets in the way of glass skin goals more than the flakes that come from dead, dry skin. Think of your face like an ice rink: It starts off perfectly smooth, but once people start skating on it, they kick up bits of melted ice that make it dull and jagged. Buffing your skin with an exfoliator does the same job as a Zamboni by getting rid of all those rough patches and returning it to a glossy, smooth state.

Our favorite way to buff is with a light acid exfoliator, which acts like a little Pac-Man to “eat up” dead skin cells. Look for one with a gentle but effective alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) like glycolic. The Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask calls on both to perfect skin and increases cell turnover overnight. Plus, it’s packed with amino-acid rich Watermelon extract and hydrating Hyaluronic Acid to lock in moisture.

People often think if their skin is sensitive or super-dry, they shouldn’t exfoliate, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! If you have reactive skin, use the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask as a wash-off mask instead of a nighttime treatment. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Want glass skin on the go? Try the Wish Formula Squish-and-Bubble Mesh Mask. It comes with a mesh-covered sponge that’s loaded with glycolic and lactic acids as well as brightening Vitamin C. Just wet the sponge and buff the product into your skin for two to three minutes using gentle circular motions; then rinse.

Step 2) Hydrate

Once you’ve exfoliated your skin and created a smooth surface, it’s time to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. This will keep skin looking plump and give it that signature glossy sheen. For dry skin, try adding a few drops of a nourishing oil, like the Whamisa Organic Flowers Facial Oil to a glow-enhancing moisturizer (we love the Vitamin C-laden Parsley Herb Cream from Yuri Pibu) for even deeper hydration.

If your skin is on the normal or oily side, you may be able to get away with a radiance-boosting primer cream instead. The Blithe Inbetween Instant Glowing Cream, which has glycerin and squalane in it to hydrate and niacinamide to repair and brighten, acts as a soft-focus filter for your face. We’re obsessed with the luminous glow it creates on our complexion.

See, glass skin really is an easy trend anyone can do, no matter how little time you have on your hands. Now, go spread the glass skin gospel of buff and hydrate!
