Korean Sunscreen Is Royal Wedding Approved

Meghan Markle’s naturally pretty, yet radiant makeup for the Royal Wedding on May 19 is yielding a butterfly effect on the beauty industry. For the last few years, heavily contoured, camouflaged skin was the go-to look, but the new Duchess of Sussex surprised many when she called on makeup artist Daniel Martin to create a sheerer, light makeup moment which showed off her beautiful freckles for her nuptials to Prince Harry.

The official beauty breakdowns for Meghan’s look are trickling in and Glamour got the full scoop from Daniel himself. The most surprising tidbit (well, not for us), was him revealing that his secret to a natural, breathable look is Korean sunscreen. He notes that it also works as a “foundation gripper” to ensure that her foundation would stay in place for the day, making it function as a sort of primer in addition to protection from that (rare) sunny day the wedding brought.

While everyone else was in awe over this nugget of bridal beauty advice, we were nodding in approval. You see, we’ve known for quite some time of the superiority of Korean SPF and how very advanced it is in comparison to the greasy, heavy stuff that’s the norm in America.

We protect our skin with Korean sunscreen daily because in addition to its gripping capabilities, it’s got a laundry list of other benefits. First, it’s advanced from an innovation perspective and second, the textures are light, yet elegant. And, of course, it protects your delicate skin from the sun really well.

If you loved Meghan’s look as much as the rest of the world (how could you not), we’ve got just the thing for you. Read on to learn more about some of our fave sun saviors. You’ll never look at sunscreen the same way again.

Earth’s Recipe Waterful Sun Gel SPF 50 PA+++, $25

K-beauty enthusiasts know the thrill of seeing those three plus signs at the end of an SPF moniker. This one provides superior UVA/UVB protection and works well for all skin types, thanks to its super-hydrating formula. It contains high silica content from the famed mineral water from the English spa town Harrogate to help rebuild skin cells by strengthening the material around collagen and elastin cells, helping to plump the skin. Put it on before a day at the beach for breathable coverage.

Make P:Rem Capsule Sun Gel, $32

Good for the parabenoid, this paraben-free, lightweight sun gel provides broad spectrum SPF 50+ protection without ghosting you (translation: no chalky, white film). Its innovative formula won’t clog pores, thanks to the inclusion of birch sap, sea buckthorn, ivy leaf, and sunflower seed extract to lightly moisturize and nourish. This one is good for al fresco brunches in the summer months.

Make P:Rem Blue Ray Sun Fluid, $38

This sun fluid boasts the added benefit of cooling down skin’s temperature as it protects from the sun’s rays. The milky texture spreads evenly and absorbs quickly, thanks to a formulation of hydrating chia seed extracts and calming centella extract. This one works for face and body and is good for all skin types. We love it as a first step for your daily makeup look.

Yuri Pibu BB Cream Cucu Maronza Cushion, $36

For a hint of tint with your priming SPF, this cushion compact makes a great on-the-go option. A hybrid of skincare and makeup, it combines the moisturizing effect of a mist, coverage of a foundation, and the UV protection (SPF 29+) of a sunscreen. Formulated with brightening broccoli, luminizing pearl, and moisturizing seaweed extract, it works well for reapplication throughout the day. This one is a good makeup-bag staple to keep in your purse.

Grab one of these regal SPF picks and you’ll have radiant summer skin fit for a queen (duchess).
