GR Test Drive: Do Mists Actually Work?

Korean women take their misting VERY seriously—it’s practically a national sport. But does it actually help with hydration or is it just fancy skin water? We decided to put our Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mis

t to the test to see if it lives up to the hydrating hype.

Why mist? Scary-but-true-fact: The average person’s skin loses around 1.5 cups of water per day! To avoid that tight dry, feeling midday, mists are a great way to hydrate on the go for long-lasting hydration. To test the efficacy of hydrating mists, we had one staffer pair the Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist— made with 84% watermelon and hyaluronic acid to hydrate and refresh skin with the WaySkin Skin Analyzer, a super fun, high-tech beauty gadget that uses microcurrents to measure water content beyond the surface and within the skin. The goal: spritz your face every two hours to see if the mist will help lock in hydration. Will it work? Keep reading to find out.

Skin Type: Oily/Combination and Acne-Prone

“I would describe my skin as oily/combination, but lately I have been experiencing dry patches. I’ve also always struggled with acne and my blemishes are where I often see dry patches.”

8:00 AM – BEFORE SKINCARE

“When I wake up my skin usually feels a bit dry so I wasn’t really surprised by the WaySkin reading. The mist had such a soft spray and I felt like it was really refreshing to use right after I woke up.”

11:00 AM – MID-MORNING PICK ME UP

1 PM – LUNCHTIME

“At the beginning of my day, my makeup is usually matte and medium coverage. But, by mid to end of the day my T-zone gets oily and I feel like my face makeup (foundation/concealer/powders) has wiped off. On this day though, I felt like my skin wasn’t super greasy, my makeup was still pretty much intact but with some wear and tear in the T-zone. I was really worried the mist would make my skin ‘too glowy’ but it was more of healthy, hydrated look.”

5 PM – END OF DAY

“Around this time, I can’t wait to go home and wash my face because my skin is typically at its oiliest. My skin did have some shine starting to peek through in my T-zone but it wasn’t as oily. ”

10:30PM – TIME FOR BED

Final Thoughts: “I’ve never really used mists before so I was completely surprised by how hydrating it was and ultimately, how much I liked it. Since I have oily/combination skin, I always use powders to mattify my complexion to avoid looking greasy throughout the day. The downside is that these foundations and powders often accentuate dry spots and absorb all the moisture from my skin. I used the mist in between each of my skincare steps and (almost) every two hours throughout the day and it really helped to refresh my makeup and my skin.

Compared to my usual day-to-day routine without the mist, I really noticed my skin was a lot more hydrated. I was worried it would end up looking greasy or just all around too dewy but it actually added a nice glow. It also dried down fast so it didn’t ruin my makeup. It was really interesting to see how the moisture levels of my skin improved throughout the day. I really think the mist made a difference in how my skin looked and felt.”
