Announcing Our Mentoring Programs

It’s no secret that the beauty industry has a lot of work to do to diversify its workforce, ourselves included. Last year we announced that we would be launching a mentorship program to help create more opportunities for small Black-owned and POC-owned businesses.

TESTIMONIALS

We’ve been fortunate to work with 6 different business looking to grow in the beauty and wellness space since we launched this program in 2020. Here’s what our latest round of mentees had to say about their experience.

“This was a fun and enlightening experience. It was really helpful being able to pick the brains of people who work in specific functions that aren’t our strength(s). It helped us to figure out how we can manage these areas today and plan for the future when we do have more help.”

– Fawziyya Sugai & Kawthar Muhammad, co-founders of Coup de Coiff

“Sarah and Christine were so genuinely engaged throughout the entire mentorship! Both of them were open and honest about YGB Collective’s strengths and opportunities for growth. We learned that our story is our strongest asset. YGB Collective is rooted in community and the best way to grow is to showcase our authentic selves.”

– Danielle G. & Danielle T., co-founders of YGB Collective

“We learned so much from The Glow Recipe team. Each member really shed such valuable light on each topic and helped us gain a new perspective. From content creation, to retail partnerships, to marketing, the takeaways were so insightful and essential for a small business. Each team member really took the time and care to understand our business and helped us develop strategies for growth.”

– Christina Graci & Kenan Bell, co-founders of stay fresh

“Sarah and Christine helped me break down my company goals to ensure I could find the steps to reach each one, which made the prospect of growth less overwhelming.”

– Tari Kandemiri, founder of Hama Beauty

“I truly feel like I have real allies in the Glow Recipe family. They opened their doors, resources and expertise to my brand, and that alone was invaluable.”

– Christina Tegbe, founder of 54 Thrones

How it works:

Our Community Mentoring Initiative is our commitment to create a comprehensive mentoring program to support and partner with 3 POC-owned businesses in the beauty and wellness space.

We will be supporting these businesses for a period of three months through direct access to our co-founders Sarah and Christine, as well as support from our in-house marketing, creative, business development & content teams to help with business strategies and provide resources.

To be considered for the program, businesses must be POC-owned and founded, based in the US, and have 4 full-time employees or less.

The business will be provided with bi-weekly virtual mentorship meetings with our co-founders and/or key team members to provide support in the following topics:

  • Marketing/E-Commerce
  • Content/Social Media
  • Finance
  • Sales
  • PR
  • Creative
  • CRM
