All About Plum Plump

Is there fragrance in the formula?

There is less than 0.5% natural fragrance included in the entire formula. This fragrance is 100% derived from materials of natural origins, like fruit, vegetables, and plants. Like the rest of our line, our Plum Plump Serum is certified Clean At Sephora.

What does it smell like?

Plum Plump smells light and fruity, just like a juicy plum. The scent fades once it’s absorbed fully into your skin. 

Where does the color come from?

The natural slightly purple color of the serum comes from spirulina and radish.

Where should I store my Plum Plump Hyaluronic Serum?

We recommend keeping Plum Plump in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight. A vanity or medicine cabinet works great.

What is the recyclability of the packaging?

Every part of this packaging is recyclable. The glass bottle and the entire carton can be recycled curbside. The plastic cap and pump can be recycled through our Terracycle program. Please rinse out the bottle before recycling!

Why is it effective to use 3 types of plums?

This blend of plum in this formula is unique as it helps to hydrate instantly and overtime. Plum fruit helps synthesize the skin’s natural hyaluronic acid production. Each plum has its own superpower — Kakadu has a very high concentration of vitamin C so it helps brighten skin and serve as a anti-aging antioxidant, Illawarra Plum is rich in anthocyanins, and Burdekin Plum contains minerals like magnesium, calcium, zinc, & potassium.

Why is it effective to use 5 molecular weights of hyaluronic acid?

Plum Plump Hyaluronic Serum uses 4 types of HA and 5 molecular weights to deeply hydrate and plump the skin. In general, hyaluronic acid is only available in 5 weights, so we actually use all available weights! Because this product’s main focus is to hydrate and plump, it was important to include high-tech, high performing hyaluronic acids that target different skin layers with hydration. 

Does hyaluronic acid draw out moisture from the skin?

All hyaluronic acids used in this formula are proven to attract moisture and significantly increase skin’s hydration immediately and overtime. That said, it will evaporate faster on the skin in drier climates. To prevent that dissipation, apply an occlusive ingredient that will trap the moisture in the skin so it can do its job plumping, healing, and hydrating your complexion. Moisturizers with emollient and nourishing ingredients (like Pink Juice and Banana Soufflé) will help to seal in the benefits of this treatment. We recommend applying the serum to slightly damp skin (to create a moist environment!) and adding a moisturizer after serum to seal in all of the nutrients. 

Why do I need this serum when I can use other products that have hyaluronic acid?

We believe that hyaluronic acid is a powerful, beneficial ingredient for skin, which is why we include 1-2 weights of hyaluronic acid in all our products. However, unlike our other products, Plum Plump Hyaluronic Serum utilizes 5 different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid to truly plump and fill the skin with hydration, layer by layer.

Why do I need hyaluronic acid in my skincare routine?

Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in our skin. Over time, our skin’s natural reserve of hyaluronic acid decreases, resulting in decreased ability to retain hydration and lack of volume. Most skin can benefit from topical hyaluronic acid, especially skin that’s prone to moisture loss.

Does a low molecular weight of HA cause inflammation?

While some studies indicate that at low molecular weights, hyaluronic acid can trigger a pro-inflammatory response, it’s important to remember that inflammation isn’t necessarily bad — in fact, it’s essential for both cellular repair and wound healing. Not to mention low molecular weight hyaluronic acid also doubles as an antioxidant.

What percentage of the formula is hyaluronic acid and plum?

Our formula utilizes 4 different types of hyaluronic acid with 5 different molecular weights to help fill skin with hydration layer-by-layer. What are the benefits of vegan collagen peptides and vegan silk protein?

When applied topically, our vegan collagen peptides are clinically proven to effectively support the skin’s barrier, help guard against free radicals, and help fight against transepidermal water loss. Our vegan collagen was shown to be just as effective as animal collagen in clinical studies. The vegan silk protein in this formula is a hydrogel peptide made from plant sugar that’s created by biofermentation in order to create silk protein just as effective as silk created by insects. Together, they help create this serum’s silky texture while strengthening your skin.

How To Use it

Can I use this with other serums?

Yes! We love combining our Plum Plump Hyaluronic Serum with other serums to target multiple skin concerns in one routine. All Glow Recipe serums are formulated to work together.

How is this different from the Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer?

Our Plum Plump serum has a hyaluronic acid-based formula that aims to provide intense hydration to your skin while prepping it for the rest of your skincare routine, and should be locked in with an occlusive. Our Watermelon Pink Juice is a hydrating, oil-free moisturizer that is intended to be used as the last step before SPF in your AM routine, and before sleeping masks in your PM routine. The two pair perfectly together.

Can I use this with other Glow Recipe products?

Yes, definitely! Like the rest of our line, we formulated our Plum Plump Hyaluronic Serum to work with all of our existing products. It’s totally up to you how to use it, we encourage you to listen to your skin and take it day by day. We love taking the time to gently pat it in with our fingertips to totally assure it’s evenly absorbed before applying new layers, but we also love adding 1-2 pumps into our moisturizer step for a more hydrating finish.

Is this suitable for acne prone, oily skin?

Yes! The formula is great for acne prone or oily skin due to its thin, water-like texture that deeply hydrates. Since hyaluronic acid is a humectant, there’s no risk of it clogging pores or contributing in any other way to breakouts. Furthermore, research has found that it can actually reduce sebum overproduction, which takes out a major contributor to breakouts and oiliness.

Is it non-comedogenic/non-acnegenic?

While this serum hasn’t been tested to be non-comedogenic, all ingredients in our Plum Plump Serum are gentle enough for all skin types. The lightweight, effective hydration and antioxidant power help to relieve skin irritation.

Can you use it day and night?

Yes! This formula works perfectly under makeup as well as in your night time routine.

Are there any other ingredients to avoid when using this serum?

No, hyaluronic acid isn’t your typical acid; it’s a hydrating ingredient that plays well with other active ingredients! However, we always recommend patch testing new products.

Can I leave it in the fridge for an extra cooling effect?

Yes, this won’t affect the formula’s effectiveness and can create a soothing sensation. 

Can I use this as a primer?

While our Plum Serum doesn’t specifically have makeup gripping capabilities, it creates a supple, hydrated base for your primer step! We love layering our Pink Juice Moisturizer or Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream on top to create a flawless makeup canvas.

Will this layer well with makeup?

Yes! The formula is lightweight and sinks into skin, creating a plump, hydrated and smooth canvas for skincare and makeup. 

Does it leave a tacky finish?

Our Plum Plump Serum is formulated to leave the skin with a lightweight, hydrated finish that never feels tacky or sticky. We always recommend gently patting in each skincare step with your fingertips to assure even absorption.
