Macadamia nuts. We’ve all eaten them, had them covered in chocolate and toffee, and baked into cookies with white chocolate and even sprinkled on lattes.

After a recent series of highly unfortunate events in Korea – and where Macadamia nuts were a minor player – news outlets are reporting that sales of Macadamia nuts have spiked locally. We felt our friend the Macadamia nut could use a little pick-me-up and a little clarification after dealing with all the recent in-flight drama.

Macadamias are a fleshy, dense nut that originated in Australia.  The nut oil extracted from Macadamias are highly prized and is a lightweight vegetable oil that has a strong affinity with skin, as it has a profile very similar to NMFs (naturally occurring moisturizing factors in skin). It contains one of the highest sources of Palmitoleic Fatty Acids among any plant. Palmitoleic Fatty Acid is also known as Omega-7 and is an unsaturated fat that is abundant in youthful skin but depletes with age.  Macadamia Nut Oil is also rich in Oleic Acid, Vitamin E and Linoleic Acid and is known to have highly efficacious hydrating properties as well as soothing, smoothing and nourishing the skin. Interestingly enough, Macadamia Nut Oil is also very stable and has a longer shelf life than many other plant oils.
