I love to sleep. Like, truly, sincerely, passionately—I LOVE sleep. If you’ve read the August Gamechanger blog, you would know that I’m not a morning person. Therefore I love fuss-free products that require minimal upkeep but produce great results. That’s why I’m super excited about this month’s Glow Gamechanger, our beloved Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask.
We’re so thankful for all the love Watermelon has received since its launch in May. It’s sold out seven times at Sephora this summer, which to us is still overwhelmingly amazing. We knew that we loved it but the response and feedback we’ve received is better than we could have ever imagined!
Ingredient Deeeeep Dive
You already know that our Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask hydrates, nourishes, and gently exfoliates—but what are the components in the formula that help the mask do its magic? This pillow-proof mask is chock full of natural extracts and gentle acids that come together to form an ultra-soothing formula that gives your skin all the TLC it needs.
The star ingredient, Watermelon, is rich in antioxidants, amino-acids, and vitamins A, B3, and C to soothe and nourish skin. Antioxidants fight free radicals, helping skin heal from sun damage and overall weakening of the skin barrier, therefore helping decrease formation of sunspots, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles. Vitamins A and C help brighten, balance sebum production, and supports collagen production while Vitamin B3, aka Niacin, promotes cell turnover to help even out hyperpigmentation and strengthen skin.
In addition to Watermelon, other fruits and botanicals such as hydrating Seaweed, brightening Pumpkin, and revitalizing Pomegranate provide further vitamins and nutrients that help strengthen and nourish skin.
Hyaluronic acid helps skin lock in moisture with its powerful humectant properties. Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body between skin cells to provide moisture and plumpness to skin. Babies have naturally beautiful, soft, supple skin because they’re born with skin containing high levels of hyaluronic acid, which is then lost gradually with age–that’s why it’s so important to replenish with skincare! Hyaluronic acid can hold 1000 times its weight in water, which is extremely effective in keeping skin hydrated. As a humectant, it not only traps in moisture from skincare, but also pulls moisture from the air. That’s why it’s my fave ingredient, especially during the cold weather months when my skin gets extra dry and needs all the hydration it can get.
The mask also contains an extra-gentle blend of lactic and glycolic acid–Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs; learn more about chemical exfoliants here!) that help brighten and smooth skin by gently “ungluing” dead skin cells from the surface of your skin so that you’re left with a softer, more radiant complexion. AHAs are gentle, naturally occurring acids (lactic is found in milk and glycolic in sugar cane) that act on both the epidermal (most superficial) and dermal (deeper) layers of the skin. On the epidermal layer, they prevent dead skin cells from bonding to the surface of the skin, promoting a smoother, brighter complexion and increased cell turnover. In the dermal layer, they strengthen elastic fibers and promote collagen production which help improve wrinkles, dark spots, and hyperpigmentation. They also strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier for less transepidermal water loss (TEWL), which is when moisture in skin is lost through evaporation into the air.
The Perfect No-Fuss Skin Perfector
Needless to say, the formula of the mask is pretty wonderful, but I think my most favorite thing about the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask is that I don’t have to work hard in order to get amazing results. Physical exfoliators and traditional wash off masks can be a bit inconvenient at times—physical exfoliators require you to scrub at your skin, which isn’t always the best, and wash off masks require you to set aside at least 20 minutes, which isn’t always possible when you’re busy doing your hustle. That’s why I love sleeping masks–you can treat your skin while getting your Zzz’s—letting both you and your skin recover and rejuvenate.
Shop the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask this month and receive two deluxe samples as a special gift until the end of October. Let us know your thoughts and leave us your reviews online and on social media using #GlowGamechanger and #MorningGlow–we cannot wait to hear what you think!
Get your glow on!
