It’s hard enough to get out the door in the morning without struggling with your daily beauty routine. We’ve summarized a list of our favorite time saving beauty tips – a combination of ways to cut down time consuming beauty routines but also little daily hacks that ultimately will save you time in the long run.
1. Who has time to exfoliate (or even remember to?)
We all know about the benefits of exfoliating once a week, but it’s hard to keep track. Our latest curation from Korea is a multi-tasking 2-in-1 powder cleanser, which will save you the worry. This cleanser starts as a dry powder but with a few splashes of water, it instantly turns into a foam. It also contains enzymes derived from pineapple and papaya to gently exfoliate the skin and help skin turnaround, so that daily cleansing should be enough to keep your skin glowy. Stay tuned for a full review on Dr. Oracle’s The Snow Queen Enzyme Powder Wash ($35, 50g).
2. Dry shampoo is our best friend
We all know dry shampoo is a great way to extend your hairstyle, but darker-haired women often struggle to find one that doesn’t leave residue behind.
Our foolproof method? Part your hair from the far left, spray front to back. Make another part closer to the center of your head and spray again, then a center part and repeat…you get the gist. Almost as if you are spray-painting 4 or 5 vertical lines on your head, strategically placed an inch or so apart. The most important thing? Do it the night before. This gives the powder enough time to absorb and you won’t be left with telltale white imprints on your scalp. Bonus points for tying your hair into a loose ponytail while lying down – this lifts the roots and will help to give your hair volume the next day. We especially like Klorane Aerosol Dry Shampoo with Oat ($19.50, 3.2 oz) which doesn’t have an overpowering scent and leaves hair bouncy but not dull.
3. Have your cake and eat it too
Somedays, you just can’t manage to put on toner, serum and moisturizer before collapsing into bed. The recent obsession in the office are sleeping masks. Sleeping masks are packed with an assortment of hydrating and anti-aging ingredients to work on your skin overnight, when it’s most receptive to treatment. And the best part of about sleeping masks is that while you can apply them over your usual skincare routine, you can also apply directly onto cleansed skin. A one-step wonder that indulges your skin. We reserve Goodal’s Want Night Sleep Cream Pack as a once a week treatment for those nights where we need a free pass.
4. Unmanageable hair?
Our friend Bora has the type of swishy, rippling hair that is straight out of a shampoo commercial. Her secret? She does a hair mask every single time she washes her hair. Bora’s routine means she starts shampooing as soon as she hits the shower (being careful to tilt her hair back to rinse off the suds so that her shampoo suds don’t run down her face). Instead of a conditioner, she uses a hair mask, taking a few seconds to work it into the middle and ends. She doesn’t coat her roots since over conditioning the roots can weigh down hair volume. Bora then ties her treated hair up in a bun and puts on a shower cap and goes about the rest of her shower.
Bora rinses out the mask before she steps out of the shower, but heat of the shower helps the hair mask to penetrate, so she gets results even with a 5~10 minute hair mask every day. The extra time it takes on a daily basis may be a minute or two, but in the long-run, manageable hair means manageable mornings.
