Use Your Skin Care as Makeup For Double the Glow

As any beauty junkie worth her sleeping mask knows, all great makeup looks start with great skin. We’ve long been proponents of letting your skin look like skin, which is exactly what spurred the inspiration for Glowipedia, our skin care and makeup lookbook that launched back in 2018. In honor of letting your skin shine, here’s a few of our favorite tricks for using your skin care as makeup.

Glow Tip #1: For glowy skin, layer your hydrators

For that glass skin look, layering is key. We love the 7 Skin Method as a way to build up long-lasting hydration for a lit-from-within radiance. To layer with ease, swap your toner for the Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist and spray 7 times, occasionally patting it in to aid absorption. All 7 layers take less than a minute!

Glow Tip #2: Mist between each skin-care step

Mul-gwang or “water glow” is a Korean beauty look named for its intensely hydrated, almost wet-looking sheen. Our favorite way to achieve this is by misting in between each step of our skin-care routine with the Watermelon Mist. The end result is a glossy, plump complexion that reflects light to minimize any imperfections.

Glow Tip #3: Use skin care in your makeup

The key to the “no makeup” makeup look isn’t nixing correctors altogether, but making it look subtle and natural. To help all the radiance you’ve built up shine through, try mixing your foundation or base with a pump of Pink Juice Moisturizer. This creates a sheer, tinted coverage that’s great for your skin, too.

You can also use your moisturizer to sheer out color products, like lipstick or cream blush. This creates a stain that just sinks into skin. For a flush that’s deceivingly natural, use your DIY lip stain on your cheeks too for a chic, monochrome look.

Glow Tip #4: Apply your skin care like a highlighter

Kkul-gwang or “honey glow”, is an allover hyper-glossy, mirror-like shine that looks like you highlighted your face with actual honey. For a skin care highlight, take your favorite glow-getting serum (ours is Pineapple-C) and press it onto the high points of your face — your cheekbones, brow bones, and the bridge of your nose — to emphasize where light naturally hits. If your skin tends to get dry, try dabbing a little extra moisturizer on your highlight spots.

Glow Tip #5: Enhance it all with hydration

Translucent powders are never truly translucent on dry skin, so use a hydrating mist to finish off your look. Since your skin loses about 1.5 cups of water a day, you should mist every 2 hours to replenish hydration. And if your mist contains a light, natural AHA (spoiler alert: our Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist has a touch of natural AHA from hydrating hibiscus flower), it will help smooth, enhance, and refresh your makeup look as well.
